Yesterday moring coming back from work, I saw these groups of thousands of birds lifting up from the lake and flying almost parallel to the interstate. I stoped the car to take a few pictures. It had been raining all night so the photos are a bit dark but you can see how there were thousands of them... and they were moving out for more than 15 minutes while I watched.

Another picture from last night. This one was taken looking stright up and if you look closely you can see the dense concentration of the stars towards the center that represent the Milky Way. This morning about 4 am I took this picture looking south east outside of Cedar Rapids. I was looking for at least one shooting star from the meteor shower, but they seemed to be avoiding whatever spot my camera was pointing at.

Spring is finally here although is behaving more like summer. Just Thursday we had our first tornado outbreak of the season. Friday, I took these pictures a little south of the town of Van Horne. The first was looking north, on a very nice peacefull day. Just by driving up the hill, you start seeing the debris left after one of the tornados destroyed this barn/workshop.

About two weekends ago, Mom and I took a short two day roadtrip to drive along the Mississippi river from the north of Iowa to the south, but on the Illinois side. The trip got cut short because of a blizzard, but this is the sunset we captured from the Palisades National park as the sun goes down over the Mighty Mississipi.

So I was trying out to see how good the zoom on the camera really was... not bad if I may say so. A picture well worth standing outside at a -5F temperature in my boots, boxers and sweater with the dog looking at me like I went crazy.

And while I was busy with the bear, Sais decided to convert his Snow Fort, into a Cave where he could hide. It took some time and digging, (and some help from my shovel) but he managed.

The Washington monument pretty much dominates DC, so here it is in all it's glory... sort of... Well, I'm back from my vacation and little by little, here will come some pictures taken there. And what better place to start than the end? On my very last day I visited the new Air and Space museum which is big enough not only to have the first space shuttle, but also a stealth bomber, the Enola Gay and a Concorde... plus hundreds of other smallish planes and space thinguies.

I am leaving tomorrow on my first vacation in 6 years that is not to Puerto Rico. Well since will be traveling light, which means no laptop with me... I will try something different.
